It was once just a Hallmark holiday...
Every third Saturday in the month of October, many of us will be celebrating (or despising) the infamous holiday known as "Sweetest Day." Understandable, I realize that many still aren't too sure on what the holiday really means or what it is. Here's a quick background story: Sweetest Day started around 1922 in Cleveland, OH by a man named Herbert Kingston who delivered candies and sweets to orphans and those that were confined to their homes to show them that someone did care. As of now, Sweetest Day is still celebrated primarily in the midwestern stats, there is no reason as to why the rest of the country isn't big on the holiday yet, but I think I might know a couple of reasons why.
Sweetest Day, to some of us, might be that special day each and every year where we can spoil the ones you love. Some make it all about their significant other, their best friend, family members, or even a loved pet! But honestly, don't you do the same thing on Valentine's Day?
Here is a huge tip for the guys: if your girlfriend or someone that you love dearly knows about Sweetest Day, GET THEM SOMETHING!
Don't fall into the trap of "This holiday doesn't mean much," or "It's not even a big deal, it's just a wannabe Valentine's Day." This means that they are aware of the holiday and that it's a time where they want to see you put just a little effort into it. Give them something memorable; it doesn't have to be big or expensive, just something to create a special memorie. So fellas, if you don't know much about what this holiday means to her, finding out is a key step to a successful Sweetest Day. And one more thing, don't forget the date it falls on because it's a pseudo-holiday: the date doesn't stay the same every year.
This holiday can bring as much confusion for the women as it does to the men. Ladies, I know that many of you know that Sweetest Day exists. It's the trendy thing and it gives you a reason to accept countless things from the ones you love. But if you don't know how to go about celebrating or enjoying it, then that's where you run into a bit of a standstill.
Ladies, don't you worry, because here are a couple tips for you to make the rest of your Sweetest Day's enjoyable.
First, if you have a boyfriend, let him know that you know what the holiday is all about. The worst thing you can do is not give any signals or hints that you are expecting something on that day. Another tip is to expect the small, cute gifts on this day because, like I said earlier, most guys aren't always aware this of this holiday and some may think it's a knock-off Valentine's. Give him the benefit of the doubt. Last but not least, let this be a day where you can sit back and enjoy being with each other like any other day.
So, as I wrap things up, Sweetest Day is not just a hallmark holiday that many once thought of it as. Now, it's a lot more than just that. It's a day where loved ones can show how much they care for one another either through gifts or just being there with them.
Guys, don't be afraid to put some effort into this day and make it special.
Ladies, help the guy out when it comes to these types of holidays so that the day is more memorable for the both of you.
And to the people who totally despise Sweetest Day, give it a shot one year and make a loved one feel special because, at the end of the day, that is why this special day was created.
Happy Sweetest day to everyone from the entire Bulldog Project staff!
