If you have ever shed a tear over a game, over a performance, or something you have invested yourself into, then you have demonstrated passion. Passion is when your put more energy into something than is required to do it. It is more than just enthusiasm or excitement, passion is ambition that is materialized into at ion to put as much heart, mind body and soul into something as is possible. When you put everything you have into something, it becomes a part of who you are. What passion teaches us, is that no matter who we are, what we are going through or what has happened in the past, we can rally around something we truly love and show exactly who we are. For me, sports has become my passion. The reason I am who I am today is the passion I have everyday for living life and being the very best I can be.
Twenty-six seconds left to go in the game, it is 4th down and 5 yards to go. Eleven players dressed in red and yellow, stand between 2nd place or a national championship. The ball was snapped, a split decision was made, sprinting torwards the end zone and crossing the goal line. This was the situation Vince Young ended his college career as the University of Texas Longhorns quarterback.
I remember sitting on my living room couch watching the play unfold. I remember running around my house with my hands up in the air as I watched the Texas Longhorns lift the national championship trophy above their head. I remember watching this game unfold and every so often either jumping up and down because Texas just made a great play or yelling at the TV because USC scored again. Passion has been embedded in me from a very young age and no matter the sport, I will give everything I have. What sports has taught me is that everywhere we turn passion is everywhere. This past week one of the greatest games of college football unfolded. Michigan state played Michigan in a game unlike any other in rivalry history. Whether the outcome brought you joy or anger, what no one can argue with is the passion and heart showed by both teams. The fans of each team are still in disbelief of that miracle ending.
My last advice about passion I want to leave in a letter.
Do not take life for granted because you never know when it will end. If your an athlete do not take the next play for granted because you never know when it will be your last. Give everything you have and leave nothing left. There will be tears, there will be blood. Like a game, life is not hard. There is no shortcut or easy path. It was not meant for everyone to succeed. Those who succeed and strive are the ones who commit, who strive and who give every last effort they have. In order to be the best in this world, or in order to reach the top, you will need to believe in yourself, believe in the people around you and give everything you have. Never stop living life and never stop giving it your all. Display passion with everything you do. Take passion to a whole new level. Love the ones you love, play the games you play, and live the life you live. Passion is apart of us, and its up to us and it is our job to display that emotion and give our full effort to the world.
