Laying their life on the line every day in battle, our soldiers give everything. This past week many people around America celebrated Thanksgiving where many enjoyed time spent with family and loved ones. For some, they are not fortunate to have every family member sitting around the big dinner table. Their family members are doing something more important than passing the mashed potatoes, they are fighting for their country.
Every year for Thanksgiving, my dad, uncles, cousins and I attend the Detroit Lions Game. We will tailgate before enjoying the game and later head over to my grandparents' house for a big dinner with everyone. One of my favorite parts of the Thanksgiving game has nothing to do with me, or with the game itself. It is when we, as a crowd, stand to honor a solider who has returned home. What makes the moment so special is when you look around the stadium, every person is standing and applauding. During this moment there is no opponent, no rivalry, there is simply one team: Team USA. These soldiers give their lives for us everyday so that we can celebrate Thanksgiving, play the sport of football and spend time with our loved ones. They are the reason why we stand up and can say we are The United States of America.
This holiday season, if you see a veteran or military member in uniform, or know of one, thank them. Without them, our country would not be the same. They take an oath to protect our country and protect the people in it. They bleed the red, white and blue. They stand for freedom, liberty and justice. Our U.S. military members are the real heroes of the world and sometimes we forget to simply say thank you.
