This was the hashtag used throughout homecoming week this year. Not only did it support the superhero theme of the week but it also meant so much more. Standing alone, no Bulldog stands a chance. Standing together, we can conquer the world. That is our mantra here at Adrian College. We are not just one person, we are a family. A Bulldog family.
Soaring high, we celebrated yet another fantastic homecoming. Friday night, a superior group of Adrian alumni earned the chance to join the athletic Hall of Fame. Each inductee made their walk down a tunnel of hope and dreams, a role model for what each and every student athlete tries to achieve.
A chilly Saturday morning engaged the competitors as they ran their 5k race to kick off another homecoming weekend. Gleaming like lanterns, people set up tents and raised their college flags. Across town the smell of barbecue lingered -- it was the beginning of the Adrian College game day tailgate. Families and friends gathered around, soaking up the warm sun and blue skies, decked in their black and gold.
Earlier in the week a writer for our school newspaper asked, "what does homecoming mean?" For me, it is more than just a day to see old faces. Homecoming is about relishing and reflecting on the time you have spent here, and the time that is to come. As a sophomore this was only my second Adrian Homecoming, but that did not make it any less special. I got the chance to see past alumni and see my own amazing family. That is what homecoming is about: celebrating our roots and what we all have in common. We will always and forever be Bulldogs-- and that is what Adrian Homecoming was about.
As the clock struck 5:00 p.m., people poured into Docking Stadium, as the mass of black and gold took to the field. Looking around all you see was a stadium full of support for each and every player, cheerleader, and band member. The Bulldog family was out in full force. From the opening snap to the final knee, Adrian College owned the turf. As families stormed the field, snapping picture after picture, taking in every moment, I witnessed something extraordinary. Not just the field, full of the sounds of victory, but the emotions displayed on every face. The smiles, the embraces, and the laughter that covered the field was empowering. It proved, once again that there was something bigger at play that day.
Adrian College. Home of the Bulldogs. As we graduate, we leave a legacy, a tradition that remains long after our footsteps are gone. Never standing alone, we stand together -- finally forever,
