Zippity Do Da. A phrase that may mean nothing to most people, but between my grandma and I, it brings back a car ride filled with laughter and adventure. Grandparents are the blessing in our life that are not always at the fore front of our minds. Someone once wrote, "A grandparent is someone with a little silver in their hair and gold in their heart!". Grandparents are the heart beat of every family and they are the ones who plant the roots for generations to come. If you get a chance today or tomorrow, call your grandparents, ask them how their day is going, tell them that you love them, brighten their day with a simple phone call. It may be the little things, but Grandparents are always worth it. Heres eight little things that constantly remind us how great grandparents truly are.
1. Spending Time
One of my favorite things to do when I return home from school, is visit with my grandparents. Whether it is over a cup of coffee or a nice dinner, any chance I get to see them I take the opportunity.
2. Goals of love and family
In a generation of messed up dating and love, Grandparents show us what true love means. Their marriage demonstrates what love looks like and all that it should be. They are an inspiration to us all.
3. Stories and Memories
There are no stories better than the ones grandparents share with us. Their insight and wisdom is unmatched and they usually have some good dirt on your parents.
This is more of a personal thing, but I really think my grandparents make the best breakfast around. My sisters and I tell my parents all the time, and they just don't get it. I can't explain it but there was something about the eggs in a cup, or cream cheese bagels before school that will stand out forever.
5. Holiday Traditions
There is no holiday without your family. The traditions started by them and their family, which has now passed down, is something we all cherish and enjoy. From Fourth of July, to Christmas and even Thanksgiving, nothing is better than spending time together.
6. Inside Jokes and Sense of Humor
I have a running joke with my papa that if I do not visit him during my spring break, I might be disowned as a grandchild. Its the little jokes and sense of humor that they provide that keep us smiling. They are the joy that lights up our lives and the reason why family activities many times turn into tears of joy.
7. They keep your secrets
If you ever get in trouble or need advice, your grandparents are the ones to go to. Their trust is eternal and something that will never be broken. They always have your best interests at heart and sometimes will tell you straight up if your doing something wrong.
8. Unconditional Love
No matter how old you become, how bad you mess up, or where you are, the love grandparents have is unconditional and vice versa. Love is forever and never forget it.
Don't take anything for granted, and jump at the opportunity to spend time with your grandparents. The relationships you build are some of the most important you will ever have in your life.
To my Grandparents,
Thank you for everything you have ever done in my life. I love each and every one of you and am truly blessed. No gratitude of thanks will ever amount to the thanks I owe. My cousins and I are your biggest fans and always will be. I love you.
